Conferences and Meetings-The 2011 conference will be in April in NOLA.

Opportunities for Professional Development-This site features a repository of webcasts. These include keynotes dating back to 2004. Also available to members is a newsletter and ListServ.

Although unaware of AERA before this class, it could be useful to me professionally. While I do not plan to participate in educational research, I could certainly benefit from findings this group might release.

American Society for Training & Development (ASTD)

Mission-The site brags right up front that it is the largest organization “dedicated to the training and development field”.

Cost of Membership-$199 for a 1-year membership, plus opportunities for additional resources (print and electronic) at further fees.

Publications-T + D (monthly magazine) plus e-publications and books.

Conferences and Meetings-There are several conferences slated for the first half of 2011 as well as additional opportunities for topic specific training.

Opportunities for Professional Development-Joining this organization gives you a line to many forms of professional development, from on-line resources to “celebrity series” trainings held throughout the year in NY.

ASTD seems to offer a variety of training opportunities, which is always useful to someone in education. While joining this organization would certainly be advantageous to me, the associated fees are a little higher than what I'm used to paying for TCEA and TLA.
