Benefits of Engaging in Design Research

Design research is important for several reasons.

1. Design research allows educators to have many "tricks" in his/her instructional bag.
2. Design research enables educators to study best practices. Incorporating tried and true theories allows educators to reach a broader spectrum of student learners.
3. As educators deal with curriculum that may or may not include a technology integration component, knowledge of design theories allow educators to make informed decision about the best way to unite aging curriculum with emerging hardware, software and web-based applications.

  1. I agree Sandy. I love knowing the "Tricks" of the trade. I am always trying to motivate the student who is distracting others and doesn't like computers, hates the word technology, and wants to surf the net for football scores or find a game site to get on. At school, we have Imperio...I don't like it near as much as the Crosstech we had last year. I can go on their computer and take over what they are doing and incorporate things to refocus their attention. Knowing their learning styles and what motivates them really helps me know what kind of interaction to give each student.

  2. Hi Lynn,

I love those apps that allow you to see what's on a student's screen. They are nice, aren't they? I like the way you use them, not as a "gotcha", but as a communication tool. Good idea!

    :-)
